Hello all, I thought I would start this topic, even though not much has been achieved; so far. The drawings are for a kit with laser cut wood, and for radio control. A rudimentary set of instructions is included, which fortunately gives a full list of required materials. I am currently tracing various parts, this is primarily to keep the drawings in as good a condition as possible, so I can pass them on to anyone else who may be interested.
One problem I have found is that I don't think I will be able to replicate the deck balusters. I could go with stanchions and rails, but I should be able to come up with something better.
Another problem is finding plywood in the right thickness, wider than 200mm, that I am sure I can work around.
The instructions also call for two layers of planking on the hull. I can understand this, if the model was to be floated, suggestions welcome.
My next lot of parts for Victory and the X section are due Monday or Tuesday of next week, so it may be a little while before I post again.

Regards,
Tony.

Hello all, Some progress has been made, I have cut out the keel and some frames. I ruined two frames, with over enthusiasm with the fret saw, I have attached a couple of photos to show progress. One tip to anyone contemplating a scratch build, buy a power fret saw. That and my trusty motor tool are a god send. My wood supplier is out of stock of some of the wood I need, but has the 5mm ply so I can finish the frames, (6 to make). I have found what could be a very good engine to model, I need to work out the valve gear though.
More later.
Regards,
Tony.

It's a start in the making of a nice model. Try to resize your pics to 600 x 600 pixels. It takes too long to open.

there you go tony ,I said that without moving my lipsFlapper
you Don't use any other photo site, just go to your pics, select the pics you want, right click and go to edit, inthe edit box click on resize, then go to pixels, click on that put in resize box 800x600 or 600 x 800 which ever way up you want them, then click ok,and save in the pop up box.go to your post page and click the attach button then post yes post, and an other box pops updouble click the pic you want, and then click on the upload button,I know this sounds complicated but take seconds when used to it.now double click on the next pic and hit the upload button and repeat for as many pics as you want, but make sure you resize all of the pics.then last hit the BACK button to load them all onto your page.try it it's easy once you know how.

Hello All,
Progress has been made, and providing I can make Karl's instructions work, with photos too. The rest of the frames have been made and fitted, plus the two longitudinal reinforcements. The supports for the paddle wheel have been fitted, these will be planked as a continuation of the main hull. The keel has been made and installed. I am now awaiting delivery of a block of balsa, to fill in the first three frames. There are some possibly awkward curves between frames one and two. I wish I had thought of balsa, when I did Victory's bow. I faffed around with templates, and I am still not sure I got it dead right. My outstanding order of wood strip should arrive later next week, so I may be able to make a start on planking the hull.
Regards,
Tony.

Hello all,
Not a great deal to report, I have made a start on the pilot house (wheelhouse), while waiting for the strip wood for planking the hull. That arrived yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to post some photos of the hull being planked tomorrow. In the meantime, acouple of photos of the pilot house.

Hello all,
Further progress has been made, nine rows of planking fitted to the hull. The next planks are fitted starting 40 mm from the keel, this is to get the required shape of the bow. A second window has been fitted to the pilot house and the exterior planked. A start has been made on the roof, I have to make the formers for the roof dome first. I will now try again to properly upload photos.

Regards,
Tony.

Hello all,
Sorry dismal failure again, could it be because I'm using widows XP and photoshop Editions 8?

You need to reduce the file size of the images. Currently way too big to appear as images rather than downloads

BigGrin Hi Tony
IF you go into picture edit on your photoshop and then go to resize ,pick the pixels option and reduce to around 600 by 400 this should allow you to post pics. Hope this helps
regards
Andy

Many thanks for all the helpful advice, I thought I had it sorted getting the pictures down to 800 X 600. I will get it sorted, just so long as I don't crash the entire de agostini website. I should be getting a new computer in the next few days. I am currently working with a somewhat antedeluvian netbook after my desktop blew up in rather spectacular fashion. Once again many thanks to all the helpers, I hope you are enjoying my sternwheeler build, All comments whether negative or positive are welcome.
Regards,
Tony.

Hello all. I have finally decided what kind of engine I am going to model, a tandem compound engine (if anyone is interested in how one works). Contact me here or google or U tube "Natchez engine room".

Tony.
