At the start of the 19th century, the United States began to build fore-and-aft rigged sailing ships called schooners, offering great maneuverability and elegance. The Virgina was designed in 1819 and launched that same year. Equipped with a central swivel mounted carronade and lighty armed but also capable of high speeds, the Virginia was used for pursuit and intercepting tasks as a coast guard boat. This kit features double plank on frame construction and laser cut wooden parts. High quality woods such as Walnut, Beech, Mahogany, Tanganyka are used iin the build. The blocks and deadeyes are made of yellow boxwood. Eyelets, bracers, belaying pins, and cabin door hinges are brass. A pre-sewn sail set is also included. I will build this as a step by step construction,and also tools and glues used,this will be aimed at the beginners and those who want to do a filler(inbetween part works)also will log working hours as I go. I have high hopes of this being a very pleasurable build,and love comments as I go,good or bad,(growing another skin) look forward to hearing from all and sundry. First job is to identify the parts and check to see if it's all there. then you can start numbering the parts.at this stage only cut out parts as you require them.then have a good read of all the instructions and plans,familiarise yourself with all the componants,so far the instructions are good,with some funny translations,but the pic. by pic book shows how it is done. with all the formers fixed,I'm now preparing for the 4 shift pattern for the decking,which will have full real caulking with .25mm. black thread. more pic to follow, building hours 4hrs.
