HMS Belfast was launched on the 17th March 1938, and was commissioned in early August 1939 shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War.
Belfast was initially part of the British naval blockade against Germany. In November 1939 Belfast struck a German and and spent more than two years undergoing extensive repairs. Returning to action in November 1942 with improved firepower, radar equipment and armour, Belfast was the largest and arguably most powerful cruiser in the Royal Navy at the time. Belfast saw action escorting Arctic convoys to the Soviet Union during 1943, and in December 1943 played an important role in the Battle of North Cape, assisting in the destruction of the German warship Scharnhorst. In June 1944 Belfast took part in Operation Overlord supporting the Normandy landiings. In June 1945 Belfast was redeployed to the Far East to join theBritish Pacific Fleet, arriving shortly before the end of the Second World War. Belfast saw further combat action in 1950–52 during the Korean War and underwent an extensive modernisation between 1956 and 1959. A number of further overseas commissions followed before Belfast entered reserve in 1963.
Belfast was one of the first ships to capture a German prize of World War 2, and was also the first large warship to be immobilised by a German magnetic mine. She was was one of the last cruisers in the Royal Navy to retain a catapult aircraft.
In 1967, efforts were initiated to avert Belfast's expected scrapping and preserve her as a museum ship. A joint committee of the Imperial War Museum, the National Maritime Museum and the Ministyry of Defence was established, and reported in June 1968 that preservation was practical. However, in 1971 the government decided against preservation, prompting the formation of the private HMS Belfast Trust to campaign for her preservation. The efforts of the Trust were successful, and the government transferred the ship to the Trust in July 1971.
After 32 years service, during which she had steamed nearly half a milion miles, the last of the Royal Navy's wartime cruisers was brought to London and berthed on the south bank of the Thames, 200yds up stream from Tower Bridge. She was opened to the public in October 1971, and currently serves as a museum ship/tourist attraction which receives around a quarter of a million visitors per year.
HMS Belfast celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013

Hi All Tom has kindly asked me to do this build of the Belfast, a ship that had many upgrades in her career the first being the increase in weight after the magnetic mine incident launched with a long ton weight of 10420 tons after the refit/repair this increased to 11550 tons aprox making her the heavyest cruiser the RN had at the time. Suprisingly there is little or no aftermarket stuff available for this build apart from turned gun barrels, no wooden deck as yet and I think there is some etch planned by a manufacturer but nothing available as yet. So an out of the box build that im looking forward to regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
