An interesting post. It has always staggered and completely humbled me that someone of such a young age as Wg Cmdr Guy Gibson (JUST 25 years old at the time!) could have the skill and bravery to lead so many men on such a dangerous mission as the raid on the dams and how sad that he should almost make it to the wars' end but then be killed by 'friendly' fire.

Most of todays' younger generation (I'm talking about the current crop of civilian louts, chavs and spineless thugs here, NOT the kids bravely serving their country in the armed forces) pale to insignificance in comparison to what those wartime lads did and the supreme selflessness that they displayed!!

Would love to have the money to buy that letter - what a treasure to own?!
