The last I heard was that funding was available for the restoration in Australia along with the expertise to carry it out.

It won't create many jobs in Tyne & Wear as the skills needed to restore it will come from a handful of specialist UK companies.
'Scarf' haven't got the funding which will cost many millions, and if this group wanted to save it, then they have had plenty of opportunity before the 2010 deadline to do something about it.

Australia seems to be the best place for this to head, and at at least her future there is assured.

Totally agree, the aussies seem to be more pro-active about this sort of thing than we do....maybe it's like the USA,they haven't got that much history & like to preserve what they can.

BigGrin Hi All
In my travels I have been lucky to see the remains of this ship several times as it is or was easily viewable as the train passed her on its way to or from Ayr , must say though she was a forlorn sight languishing and looked abandoned.
There have been claims that the ausi restrictions on importation of foreign goods/items will mean the total strip down of the ship and the destruction of all parts that could harbour virmin/ mould and insects that are not of antipodian origin so basicly although the ausi's will throw heaps of cash at her the only thing left of her will be the shot blasted iron and cast iron fittings, these do like the Cutty Sark include the cast iron ribs but it may become just a shell and nothing left from the old lady
