Hi Guys,

Here are a few pics of my Zero. I don't have any real early pics, due to my phone tanking and me not having backed anything up.

I took a somewhat different approach to the build. Hey, it's mine, right? I felt that here was far too much internal detail to cover it all up, but I liked the interplay of all the various colors. So, I painted the interior as directed, but I am keeping all the external surfaces in the Aluminum.

It has been discussed here and elsewhere how to glue the aluminum and get it to stick. I found what works the best is to etch the aluminum a bit. I use a solution of household lye (drain cleaner) and warm water. This works like a charm, but DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES!!! It gives the aluminum just enough "tooth" that the glue grabs it.

Anyway, the pics!

My Zero has been quietly progressing. Not as quickly as I would like, due to life getting in the way, and other build commitments that take priority. I have all the despatches in hand, and jumped ahead to build the cowl. The cowl is an exercise if fit, fit again, and fit yet again! It takes a LOT to get it right, and looking good. I am pretty pleased with the results though. There is some very judicious filling along the edges of the gun troughs, and at the edges of the intake port on the lower cowl.

I am going to be using magnets to hold the cowl together, enabling the cowl to be removed easily. I sourced some micro rare earth magnets here;

https://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=10

I ordered the N42 size, and with the screw bonded into the plate, and snipped flush, there will be plenty of holding power.

The motor is dry fitted. I just had to see how it all looked!

The tank was cemented together, after making double and triple sure the switch functioned. Then the seam was filled. I felt the 2 colors of Alclad would add a bit of visual interest. (not that the model really needs that...)

I apologize for the orientation of the pictures They are normally orientated in my computer, but uploaded weird.

Now, the pics!

Hi Mark, Cool

Got this one stashed away, with the working engine.

Great work on your build and will be using as a reference for my build when it starts. (Don`t know when, too much on at the moment)

Hope too see the finished article soon, but will wait as long as it takes to see a MASTERPIECE.

Regards

Hi StevieO,

The Zero didn't have folding wings, Per Se. The outboard sections of the tips folded, gaining all of about 5' of space. The tips do indeed fold on the model though.

It is a fantastic model! It is sold out now, but is available on eBay as a full kit( with Japanese instructions)
