Hi Foz,BigGrin

Thanks for the kind comments.

Hopefully I will find the required wood, but if not it`s no real problem as CMB can solve my needs.

Hi All, BigGrin

Here`s a short update on my cannon dio.

I managed to source the wood needed for the carriage sides at the International boat show in Leamington Spa Cool

Needed 10 mm x 25 mm, so stacked 2 10x10 with 2 5x5 on top.

Then, after a bit of cutting and shaping got the results shown below.
Still got a bit to do to take the axles. (Job for another day)Pics 1-2

From there I turned my attention to the construction of the cannon port.
This is a two part item with some nice decoration to add, albeit very brittle metal.Pic 3

Then added the top section.Pic 4

When all was well dried I added the ornamentation.Pic 5

Now, you may have noticed in the earlier pics that the walnut varied in colour, so I took to my favorite wood colour "Dark Oak".

So here is where we are to date.Pic 6

Any comments, good, bad or indifferent along with any advise will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi All,BigGrin

Had some more success today with the parts I`m having to make.

Sorted out how to mark up where the axle holders would fit and made the relevant cut-outs.

Then assembled the carriage.Pics 1-4

Having stained the carriage dark oak, it was time to dry fit the axles and wheels to check the barrel height.

The following pics thankfully show my calculations for the carriage sides were correct.CoolPics 5-7

That`s all for now.

All comments welcome.

Happy Building BigGrin

Hi All, BigGrin

Small update while I give my eyes and fingers a break from gun port lining the Sots. Crying

Have made up the side rails to the gun port, which needed some serious adjustment, but sorted with a file.Pic below

The metal content is very brittle, but with tender care it can be sorted Ok.

More to follow later, after a few more gun port linings. LOL

Hi Alan,BigGrin

Thanks for taking a look and the kind comments. Cool

This is a lovely little build to fill in gaps and give the eyes a rest when required.

As you also so rightly say it will make a nice little display.

It`s 6 inches by 6 inches so when finished it won`t cost an arm and a leg for a case when I find one to keep the dust off.

Hi Steve, BigGrin

Thanks for taking a look and appreciate your comments.

Like I say this is a fun little build with a few quirks of it`s own,
(including missing carriage parts)but I`m really enjoying the small stages I`m doing it in.

It gives the brain and eyes a break from the bigger build (SOTS) Laugh

Hi All, BigGrin

This is a small update,it`s of some work done whilst taking a break from gun port lining the SoTS.

The kit comes with wood of differing colours, so decided that a coloured, satin varnish was the order of the day.

To that point here is a set of three pics, showing the deck and side rail from two directions and a little close-up of the cannon ball holder.

The cannon balls were painted matt white for a base coat as they were chromed Confused and then blacked using the SoTS, matt (metal) black.Pics 1-3

Now I hope you like the above and as always constructive advise/comments are more than welcome. Laugh

Hi Steve, BigGrin

Many thanks for looking in and the kind comments. Cool

The gun carriage is complete, but in need of a good coat of stain and then the detailing to do.

As for the figures, they will be my first ever attempt, but seem to be of a scale that should make the detailing easier.

The figures are also mounted on a base Confused , which in the box art work is painted grass green, very weird for sailors on a ships deck LOL

Will update soon

Happy building BigGrin
