First an apology if the info I am am giving has already been mentioned. I am new to these forums and am amazed at how quickly you guys and gals move on with the mass of knowledge you all have - a real credit to you all for sharing.

Anyhow to get back to my point some mention was made early on about the function of the chains on the canon. The answer is simply the chain holds a locking pin that secures the trunnion bracket.

The canon barrel has to trunnion protrusion each side that holds it to the gun carriage and allows the barrel up and down motion. The trunnion mounts on the gun carrage are hinged at the point closest to the back of the carriage so they can be lifted up and the barrel removed. To secure this bracket the chain holds a metal pin that slips through the locking hole at the front of the bracket.

In essence if you intend to use chain onyour canons and intend to show canons infiring order the chainshould connect to the front of thr trunion bracket - otherwise fire that canon and watch it fly from it's carrage.

If you want to see what I mean plead take a look at your victory mag number 1 page 7- see the row of canon ? Look at the second one in and you can just make out the locking pin on the chain in place. The first canon in the picture if fired would more than likely see the trunion bracket pop open and the barrel fly off. As you can see by the first canonthe rear of the bracket is secured by a loop forming a basic hinge - the front of the bracket drops over a pin with a hole through and this is were the pin on that chain fits.

I hope I have not caused any undue issues and again apologies if you have already discussed this point. because you guys and gals are striving for perfection I have never seen and stand in awe I thought I would mention this before you build your other 24 canon.
