Hi All

I hope someone can shed some light on how i go about the shrouds on my endeavor build.

The magazine says to take a length of thread from one side to the other but after looking at other publications such as Rigging period ship models, that says one length from 2 dead eyes on the same side.

Question is, is there a set way to do this or different ways as i would like to get it right.

As always on this site your help with the build is really appreciated.

Regards

Personaly I would stick with your instructions to ensure you get the endresult expected in the kit. That does not mean you can not take a diferent approche if you wish

Hi Foz, when I rigged my Endeavour I followed the info in Rigging period ships and did the one length for two port shrouds then 2 stbd. or visi versa - can't remember whether it was port first or stbd. - just followed the pics in the book.

I found quite a few discrepencies in the model plans and followed the rigging model ships book as far as possible.

Hi Foz.

I couldn't remember if it was port or starboard either so I had to look it up!
To be 'historically' accurate you should go from the number 1 deadeye on the starboard side (No 1 is the one closest the bow) up to the platform or cross tree, round the mast and back down to the number 2 deadeye on the same side. This is then followed by the number 1 and 2 on the port side with the loop around the mast resting on top of the first one and then numbers 3 and 4 on the starboard side and so on etc. etc.

You could however try a hybrid approach which is closer to the instructions and go from number 1, up to the mast and then around the mast and back down to number 1 on the opposite side. This would keep to the instruction plan but still give you the loops around the mast.
If you do go for the 'proper' way, note that the shrouds are actually lashed together for a foot or so from where they come away from the mast (It's flaming difficult to get in there to do that though!)BigGrin

Best of luck with it whichever one you go for!
