This car's debut was at Kyalami, just up the road from me, in 1973. Denny Hulme took it to pole but unfortunately only finished 5th. During the next couple of years it evolved and brought Mclaren it's first drivers and constructors championships.
Since the De'ag MP4/23 got me hooked on F1 models I'm aiming to build various cars and this 1/12 M23 is my next project. The Tamiya kit features the high airbox and vertical rear wing post but I want to get a little closer to the appearance of the Hulme car. I've aquired a few bits and pieces to help with that.
It's going to take me a while to finish especially since I'll be attempting some airbrush work for the first time. I'm still in learning mode so all advice is very welcome.
Malc.

Decided to start with the engine. used a bit of filler on some of the joint lines.BigGrin
My wife bought me an airbrush setup for xmasLove so I christened it on this little DFV. It seems to take longer to clean the equipment than to do the spraying Laugh

Water and oil pumps added to the lower sides of the engine. I decided to reduce the bling appearance of Tamiya Chrome plating on the canister oil filter with a light dust of metallic silver.

A little more done on the engine/gearbox. I've not worked with photo-etch parts before but the result on the brake discs was really pleasing.BigGrin
The plug leads and fuel lines are quite fiddly and I haven't glued anything in place yet. Can't imagine what a 1/20 scale must be like for wiring up Laugh next week the calipers and some suspension bits.

Decided to change the plug leads for some thinner cable and added plug covers from some thin plastic sheet punched at 4mm diameter

Some work on the rear suspension. I've added some detail to the Koni dampers with a home made decal. Not sure it's too original but I like it BigGrin

Nearly finished the engine and transmission. Still got to permanently attach the radiators and glue the gearbox to the block. I'm trying to get a reasonable look to the hydraulic fittings ( A/N joints? )I've used some plastic tube sprayed metallic red and put metallic blue on the connectors on the radiators.
Started work on the exhaust pipesBigGrin
