Well, I joined the forums here so I figured I'd best do my own diary for my Cutty Sark build. As mentioned in a post elsewhere, this build is a bit beyond my current skills, having only built smaller kits such as the Swift, but it's also very special to me so i'm taking my time and making sure I do it right. My grandfather passed away 5 years ago in the middle of building his own, and it was always his favourite ship, so i'm dedicating this build to him. Below are a few photos of what I've done so far. Without realising the waterways were meant to be laid down first, I went ahead and planked the main deck. Rather than pulling it all up to do it again, i'll just lay down the waterways over the planking and try to make it as neat as possible, since the kit I bought didn't have much in the way of spare decking materials. I'll be ready to start soaking my hull planks and laying those down in the next few days, so now I just need to figure out exactly HOW to do so. Specifically, how to join them from fore to aft since the planks in the kit don't cover the full length of the ship. For the time being, you can see in one of the photos that I've placed balsa blocks in between bulkheads 7 and 8 and sanded them to the shape of the hull to give more surface to join planks, as joining two planks on the bulkhead itself was a disaster last time I attempted this build. Hopefully if I give a few coats of watered down wood glue to soak in and harden the balsa a bit it will hold the pins until the planking is dry without any popping out. Current builds:

Hi Bradius, nice pics of your build but am afraid to say they are upside down... you need to resize your pics before attaching to your posts, hopefully this link will help you.... http://forum.model-space...s&m=96687#post96687

Ah, thanks for the heads up. It frequently happens when the photos are taken with my phone or iPad and uploaded to my computer. For some annoying reason they come out upside down and sometimes if I try to rotate them and save the file windows won't allow me to. I'll look into fixing this. Current builds:

Rather annoying, as i'm still working out how to use windows 8 (new laptop) and its stupid photo editing software. Plus the fact that I can't figure out why they're coming out upside down at all, as they're all right side up when I view them on my computer. Current builds:

Excellent, glad its working properly now. Oh, and if anybody gets curious as to what the initials are on the false keel, those are my grandfather's initials which I also carved and wrote into the deck before laying down the planking Current builds:

Here's the decks after a visit to the hardware store today for stain. I chose a nice maple stain and the decks have been given a couple of coats of satin finish. Current builds:
