Hi Fellow Shipmates.

After trolling round the internet for hours looking at lathes, I have decided to attempt to make my own! But I need just a bit of help!

Getting way up in front and ahead !!!! LOL (see previous post) LOL

Does anyone know how long the Main Mast will be ?????

This would help greatly in the design (which is in my head at the mo!) as to how long the bed should be !!!

Any help would be very much appreciated. Photos and plans to come.
Happy Building, Russ

Hi Russ
The mast's would be made up of 3 or more separate parts, with the crows nest between them, given the ships dimension on height is 33 1/2 " you could come up with a rough size.

Until the ship's plans are available its guess work really Russ.

You could always make the masts from square stock, I've tried dowl and to be honest it just didn't look right.

On making you plans maybe incorporate a sliding bed to what you would see as a maximum size down to, well what ever you want. That was your covered.

As you can see here the dowl is at the top and just below it is the same dowl tapered.

this is something I started but never finished, I think I wanted the mini lathe, but felt it was'nt gonna cut the mustard on the larger masts and spars
