Well, have finished the launch and some of the small canons. Also did one of the anchors. Hope to have pics later.
I am now facing the planking of the hull. Must admit I'm a little nervous about this task. The reason being all the depressing stories I have been reading of the problems most people have been having, very depressing.
Oh well, I guess there's nothing to it but to do it, as they say.

Hi Sinbad and welcome... Planking is daunting I know but if you take your time and follow the advice of other builders on this forum then I feel sure you will soon get into the stride of planking.... Best advice I can give just now is ensure you let the planks lie where they naturally want to go, don't go trying to force them into position. This will also show you where tapered planks will need to be fitted.... Good luck, I'll be following your progress....Cool Cool

Hi Sinbad,
I'm currently at issue 90 of the Vic and have loved every minute of it, yes you will have problems but nothing that can't be easily sorted out. You also have the advantage (as I did) of seeing other builds and this is the best way to avoid any mishaps later.
Have fun, love to see some pics of your progress and have you considered starting a build dairy?

I can only echo Steve's words, this has to be in my top 5 as value for money things I have bought.

You may find the planking is not as difficult as you think. Take your time and give each and every plank the time it deserve.

Odd what you say though, I don't remember seeing much that was depressing at all on here even when some folks spotted some major problems and had to dismantle some sections and redo. Did you have any examples in mind?

It can seem a bit daunting for us beginners but I was pleasantly surprised how well mine turned out even to thinking I may go for a varnish finish to show off the planks.

Key to success for me was 'one plank at a time' and of course the advise on here which is priceless.

Here are the pics. The colour in the canon shot got a little washed out by the flash. Thanks all for your response.

HI Sinbad.

Welcome aboard. Your work looks great so far.

As for the planking, as said above, just take your time and let the planks go were they want to and you will be fine.

Regards
