General purpose or graphite grease is okay to use which can be found at and automotive store, or you can purchase diff grease of various types via a model car retailer, such as an 'anti-fling' type which adhere's to the gears better.

On no account should you use oil of any description, the diff unit is not sealed, you would end up with oil seepage and the diff eventually run dry.

would lithium grease be ok to use...and should i fully pack it or just enough to coat the gears. i take it mixing of grease would be wrong so with the grease ive used from the issue what would i use to flush it all out

Lithium is okay. Molybdenum (Moly) grease is mainstream, and if you want to go up market, then Mobil 1 synthetic grease.

Personally I wouldn't mix, but you should be okay. WD40 can be used for grease removal.

You need to pack/coat as shown in the instructions.
