HMS Illustrious today returned home from her penultimate deployment with praise ringing in her ears from government leaders – and hundreds of friends and family.
Despite a sullen January day in Portsmouth, there was a substantial welcome for the carrier which is home one month later than planned thanks to her role helping the people of the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
