Hi All This will be where my card model of the L48 will be but first some background. At about 0200hrs on the morning of June 17th 1917 a Zeppelin crashed just outside the small village of Theberton in Suffolk. As it descended the glow in the sky could be seen from 50 miles away. This was the German Zeppelin L48. Commanded by Kapitanleutnant der Reserve Franz George Eichler it had just completed a night bombing sortie over Harwich and was believed to be heading east back home, however the airships compass had frozen and was giving incorrect readings and they were in fact heading north along the Suffolk coast. After locating the airship with searchlights, the zeppelin sustained several attacks from various aircraft but it was Second Lieutenant Loudon Pierce Watkins in his BE12 who was credited with the final ‘kill’ by downing the airship using the new incendiary bullets, an act that saw him win the military cross. It crashed in a ball of flames just a stones throw to the East on farmland belonging to the owners of Theberton Hall Farm. There were just 3 survivors from the crew of 19, all 3 jumping free of the wreckage as it crashed onto the sandy Suffolk soil. One local tale tells of one of the survivors, Heinrich Ellerkamm who was taken to a local house in Theberton and when the occupant was asked if she could take him indoors until the authorities arrived, her reply was “Not likely, lock the beggar in the shed”. There was also a Time Team dig at the site of the crash. regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

An interesting history which makes you realise how determined they were.
Look forward to seeing the build

Well here goes One of the reasons its taken a while to start was I have been looking for a good creasing tool these are not really available , I did get one from a craft shop but it gave to wide a crease so I ended up with a butter knife from years ago, the type that was found in granny's kitchen draw, this gives a perfect crease. The card kit comes with two pages of printed parts in matt grey and black, the instruction can take a little time to understand as they are that funny euroenglish that you sometimes get in foreign kits. To start its the stern most part or tail section its a process of scoring the part making the holes with a pin for the stabaliser wire rods and then cutting out and using the tab to fix the two sides together. An internal stiffener was then added as was the tab to attach the next section after this was added the stabaliser fins were added to the tail after cutting out and mounted on the wires attached previously. The third section was then added with another internal stiffener I have one more section to add here to compleat the tail section of the modell. Andy This is really interesting. I had not paid too much attention (sorry) as some of these paper kits look just like paper but as Jase mentioned this looks far from. Your doing a splendid job of what I would imagine is a difficult material to work with. Tony Happy Modelling

Hi Jase I have been studying this for a long time due to the instructions and did wonder if this would as you say 'look' like paper, also building the power boat gave a good grounding of techniques to be used. I also have been pleasantly suprised as she comes together ,thanks for looking in and your comments regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Tony I agree that some do look look paper and are poor renditions luckily this is one of the better card model manufacturers some of there ships look fab and no need to say sorry. Its not so much a difficult medium to work with rather its learning a set of new techniques to bring it all together and have found it quite theraputic but again time consuming thanks for looking in and your comments regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All The final segment of the stern has been added and the rear most engine nacelle made up and put in position. Just the centre section and bow section to make up now. Getting the segments to line up has been a pain but still looking ok . Amazing how detailed it is considering its a paper build

Hi Mr T Its quite complicated as a build all the bends must be scored first then bent to shape and joined up its the inner formers that give the correct shape so these are very important and there placing must be just so. Even so after all that in enjoying this build. Thanks for looking in and your comments regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All The centre section has now been finished and the two engine's added, I have also used some fishing line here so I have a means of hanging the finished model. Now for the nose sections, more soon regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All The nose section has now been made up. A few problems were encountered here with the curve of the nose distorting the joints and shape of the sections causing a crease during rectification but finally got around it. After the nose section had been made up it was attached to the main body and the forward control gondola added, the only thing to add now was some clear circular disc's to represent the working propelors. In conclusion I have enjoyed this build ,totally different to anything I have done before it also taught me that careful planning is a must with card models and that card models are a lot harder to build than I origonally thought. Would I build another yes is the answer and I don't think she turned out too bad for my second card model regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
