Hi all,

New boy is back again. Now got to a staggering issue 36! Don't think I am going to set any records here but sure am having fun!
I am about to start putting the second layer of strakes on and need advice on how to glue them on.

Q1. Which glue is best?
Q2. What is the best way to keep the strakes in place whilst the glue is drying?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Kev

Hi Kev, I used normal Alphatic glue and map pins on the edge of the planks. If you look at this link of my diary it will show you what I did... http://forum.model-space...sts&t=5013&p=61

Good luck with it...

Regards

Alan

Aliphatic glues and map pins for me too.

Staples do pins with flat heads. These are good for tapping in with a small cross pien hammer. Some people may push them in, but I always felt like the planking was going to break when I pushed it.

A great tip with verneer is to wipe with a damp cloth the strip on the outer side ( not soaking wet) before applying glue on the inner side. This prevents the strip to curl and cause air pockets. Its too thin to sand level again.

I use the quick-dry professional Alaphatic wood glue. Other types of glues dry out, leaving air- pockects causing the verneer to have 'bumps'.

Hi Alan,

Thank you so much for the advice. Am in awe of the photos!

Many thanks also to Rob and Marcel for your excellent tips.

Just finish rubbing hull down and then steam on.

Thanks again to all
