Been searching for information on the laying of the 7th plank. The reason for this is I have noticed that if the stern plan is taken down by 1mm it puts it that much out with the forward plank, where they join. I have checked Tomicks build and it does say that the forward plank needs to be tapered but only from frame 13.
I have double checked and it does say to cut the stern plank down by 1mm for the whole length.

Sinbad, Tapering the plank doesn't mean you remove 1mm from the whole length, it mean the taper starts at one end right along the length, so the end meeting the mid plank is 5mm wide, the other end is 4mm wide. Tomick's build doesn't say "cut the stern plank down by 1mm for the whole length" - it says:- "This plank will also need to be tapered by about 1mm along its length, which is to keep the line of planks parallel to the deck line rather than rising upwards towards the stern"

Hope this makes sense.

Correct Steve.

your plank should be 5mm at one end and gradually reduce to 4mm at the other loosing 1mm.

does that help?

Thanks guys. I had a feeling this might be the case.
1mm to 5mm is tapering. Perhaps it was a misprint in my mag.
Anyway, problem solved.
Thanks again.

Correct - 1mm to 5mm is tapering, but in your case you want 4mm to 5mmBigGrin from stern to frame 24
