Too early for the 'Tall Ships' but got some snaps of 'Trincmalee', by the way, there's an enquiry about the result of the Tall Ships Race, someone claims that it was 'rigged'!!!Laugh Laugh Laugh
Never mind, here's the pic's;

I'm going to try and catch them Tall Ships over the week-end, I'll see if I can get some decent pic's. (I've got time on my hands since 'Ago' thinks there are 5 weeks in a month!!!!)

I take it you won't be able to make it on Tuesday. David Gray and myself plan to visit Hartlepool to see the tall ships leave and take some (more) pictures of Trincomalee

Hi Chris

There are plenty of differences between HMS Surprise and HMS Trincomalee. Surprise was a captured French corvette (1796) and was re-rated as a 28 gun sixth rate frigate when she became HMS Surprise.

Trinc wasn't launched until 1817, built in Bombay using Teak rather than Oak. The most noticeable difference is that she is flush decked. i.e. the top deck runs all the way from the stem to the stern at one level. She was one of the 38-gun Leda class Frigates based upon the lines of the captured French frigate Hebe.

HMS Trincomalee is Britain's oldest floating warship and there are a lot of common features in her construction which should help with HMS Surprise. I'm hoping to update my photo record of Trincomalee and will certainly post some of the pictures.

Awesome vessel. Only found out about this and the Unicorn thanks to this forum. I'm rarely up North though, so doubt I'll ever get to see this in person.
