Here we go with Pt 3 of my North Africa Diorama  Pt.1 herePt.2 hereThe M3 Stuart was first used by the British in June 1941 under a lend-lease agreement. Nicknamed "Honey" by the crews and used as a "shoot and scoot" due to it's top speed being 10-20mph faster than any Brit or enemy tank at the time. The kit has a detailed interior and I have the full PE kit to go with it. Academy kits are usually very good and this one is no exception, beautifully molded, well detailed and absolutely no flash - this one is going to be enjoyable The usual sprue pics next, one point on the tracks - rubber tracks were supplied and look very good but you cant beat individual links which is what I will be going with. There are 392 pieces of track which equates to 66 links per side or 6 pieces for every 2 links of track - it's going to be fun  stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Thanks Jase & Andy Over the weekend I built the lower hull and wheels, I wanted to get these parts painted and base layer weathered before they went together. There are no visible lines where the upper and lower hull meet so no worries about the continuity of the finish when it goes together. There was no point is taking pics during this part of the build, separate wheels and suspension assemblies were primed in black and then sprayed sand so some of the black shadowing could still be seen. The fit so far has been a dream, absolutely perfect, better than any Tamiya kit I have made - its so good that no glue was required for the road wheels at all, not even to fit them to the hull I also got this part out of the way as there was no etch on the lower hull. This tank wont be heavily weathered but there will be more layers on the wheels etc later, some chipping and sand pigment. Moving on to the interior next so more pics soon. Got some work done on the interior last night, a black primer coat first, then a satin white enamel overspray, I made sure that the white spray didnt reach all the corners to make those areas slightly darker. A black oil wash was next and lots of chipping I have put in a couple of pics with the lid on showing that hardly any of this will be visible even with all hatches open which is why I didnt spend too much time on it. It will be having a sandwash and the fire extinguisher is still not fitted. There is more interior work later inside the turret Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Here's a few more pics with some dust / sand inside, that's the inside done now apart from the turret internals, I will probably brush a little of the sand pigment out before applying a lacquer as it looks a bit strong in the pics Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Thankyou Alan, I have toned down the sand effect now and klear coated it again and that's it for the hull interior. The pic seems to look like all the sand effect is gone but it's not, same as the pics in the last post seemed too sandy but only on the photo, what is it with cameras? Thanks Alan, Moved onto the hull lid now, just building up all the parts and etch that are to be the same colour as the tank, everything else will be painted off the model. Used most of the etch supplied although there were a few bits that wernt necessary. A little filler here and there and then a grey primer. More on this one tomorrow. Thankyou Spencer A little more progress - I have put the base colour on the lid, it is based on the caunter cammo scheme and consists of a half and half of sand and mid blue / grey with some dark green on the turret as well. Then for a bit of a change I built up the commanders gun with all the supplied etch as this is the gun on the turret top so is clearly visible. It's a lovely thing once complete though, really happy with it, so much detail when you consider it's only an inch long Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
